Teaching Health class is challenging yet rewarding. Challenging due to the varying maturity level of students, family perspectives and the impact of social media in culture. Rewarding due to the impact a teacher can have on children developing lifelong healthy habits with the ultimate reward of genuine happiness.
Over the years I have used several techniques teaching and learning in the Health classroom. From a textbook, worksheets, to digital portfolios. Recently I have found the PBL/Designed Thinking approach to teaching Health yields a deeper connection for students understanding what a healthy lifestyle is and how to live it. The projects are a great start to PBL/Designed Thinking in the Health classroom but definitely not the perfect product. I believe Health classes could start to be incorporated into cross-curricular projects for a richer educational experience. Attached is a folder with my current projects and scaffolding for a Grade 9 semester based Health class. Enjoy! Grade 9 Health PBL Google Slides
